Studying English Language and Literature will improve your analytical, creative and communication skills. It combines well with almost every subject and is highly valued by Higher Education institutions and employers. The Language and Literature course seeks to build on students’ existing knowledge developed at GCSE. During this course, students will examine media materials as well as a range of classic and modern literacy texts. Students will be expected to evaluate styles, purposes, and effects of language. You will study a range of fiction, poetry and drama from various periods.

Voices in Speech and Writing: 2 hours 30 minutes (40%)
Varieties in Language and Literature: 2 hours 30 minutes (40%) NEA (20%)
Where Next
Having A Level English Language and Literature as a subject can offer you a host of employment opportunities, as well as giving you a distinct advantage when applying to universities. Almost any career can be accessed with A Level English, however career opportunities that require an English A Level include journalist, columnist, screenwriter, editors and teaching, with several other careers, particularly in the media and publishing industries, where having an A Level in English is a huge advantage.
